Interview with ROSE ROVINE E AMANTI

It is easy to notice that „Europe” and „european tradition” are one of the most popular themes on the „neofolk” and „military” scene. How do you think – why is that so?

Because musicians and lovers of neo-folk music are no children or mainstream crowds: this scene is made up by real musicians and people who know that music is strictly related with a spiritual level, and listeners don’t need only a nice song but something more: Tradition is more. European because this scene is only European.

Many „neofolk” artists are interested in „revolutionary-conservative” movement (Junger, Spengler etc.) or in „integral traditionalism” (Evola, Guenon). What do you think about this ideologies?

I can’t answer...too difficult and all in all I’m just a musician not a thinker: but for me exist only Christianity and the holy cross which is the architecture of the world and of the human spirit. But I respect the thinkers you’ve mentioned…this scene is promoting harshly them because mainstream tries to hide, while we have lots to learn from them all.

Your opinion about so called „postmodernism”, „post-modern art”, philosophy and other things like that. Is there anything interesting in it? Or maybe it’s only a source of decay for our culture?

For me it doesn’t exist post-modernism…the modernism is still alive and in good health. We still must build something new, learning from the past and even from what could be good from modernism…someone is trying but I still think what poor legacy we’re leaving behind us!!!

There is a lot of religious inspiration in your music. Tell us something more about your spiritual way to traditional Catholicism. How do you feel on neofolk/military scene, which is mostly pagan – some projects are even anti-christian?

I think mainstream culture and pop music are much much more antichristian than some other neo-folk bands. I love to take my position in such scene, I’m not scared of huge presence of pagans, all in all the pagans have a religious approach to life, and their doors are more opened. Christianity comes from paganism to put off the rubbish from this and to complete the whole religious feeling. I’m not a good catholic…I’m fighting against my weakness to became a good one.. but difficult. I just invoke a more stern sober Roman Church, to be driven in the right direction and this Pope Benedictus XVI seems really trying to bring it in a more spiritual level.

Interview with ROSE ROVINE...
Ciąg dalszy...

Once upon a time you said that Josef Klumb (Von Thronstahl) is your great friend. In fact, there is a lot of politics in Klumb’s music. Do you agree with his radically conservative views?

I don’t think Josef is really conservative...mhh very complex to explain… I think he loves more the aesthetical pose of conservative culture, and the holy sense of hierarchy (which I share!), but Josef as well as me know very well there is no chance for a new real conservative world. Just on a private way. On a political level I’m far from Josef K. about the Palestine problem and about anti-Americanism…but this is not a big problem for each other.

Do you still teach music in private school? Do you find this job interesting?

In private and in a state ones, yes. Very interesting, hard for lots of reasons but good. The problem I can see clearly is that the boys of nowadays have no idea of what could be the power of music: I’m not so old, I’m 29 years older but often I feel like a million years older than them: I try to show them music is the most powerful “drug” (it gives you the best and purest exaltations), and I try to help them to understand the music is for a joke and a spiritual attitude. Is not by chance that all the religions use music. But the spiritual attitude to music nowadays is not considered anymore: music must be just an easy and fast background, not more…we’are loosing a lot!

Is there a future for neofolk, neo-classical music in Europe?

I think yes of course. Only on an underground level of course, so if some idiot think to use such scene to became a super star it’s better to explain him this is not his way. If the neo-folk musicians and all the promoters (reviewrs, pr, labels and so on) will be enough intelligent to understand what wonderful movement we have, and we must take care of it and always be true with our art, even if we’re only doing entertain music (not the eternal one like Chopin) the future of this scene will be lush then and more and more people will come and understand and love this movement, which actually in my opinion is the onlyest where you’re free to compose in any directions and find real artists.
